Paul H. Douglas Appointed Board Chair

August 02, 2021

Silver Spring, Md. August 2, 2021 -- Adventist Risk Management, Inc. (ARM) today announced Paul H. Douglas as chair of the ARM board and Gencon Insurance Company of Vermont (GICV) board. In April, Douglas was voted to serve as treasurer and chief financial officer of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, a position he assumed August 1.

Douglas replaces Juan Prestol-Puesán, who served as ARM’s board chair since 2015. Prestol-Peusán announced his retirement in April after working for the Adventist Church for more than 50 years.

Since 2007, Douglas served as executive director of the General Conference Auditing Service (GCAS), leading a global team of certified auditors in performing financial and regulatory audits for all organizations affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist denomination.

In a statement Douglas said, “It is my privilege to serve ARM as its board chair and I look forward to supporting the leadership team and entire complement of talented professionals who provide such an indispensable ministry for our Church.”

“Church leaders and members need to possess an appreciation for the variety of risks that can have a negative impact on our mission,” Douglas continued. “I am confident ARM will continue its risk education efforts that will enable all of us to identify and address those risks before they materialize into a problem.”

Speaking of the appointment, Karnik Doukmetzian, president of ARM and GICV said, “Paul Douglas, in his years as director of GCAS, has advocated for church-wide transparency and accountability. His leadership as chair of the Adventist Risk Management board and the GICV board will maintain our focus on those core principles across the service delivery areas of ARM to our church-based clients.”

Douglas holds an MBA from California State University, San Bernardino, a Certificate from the Leadership and Strategic Management Program at Cornell University, and is completing his dissertation towards a PhD in Accounting from the Cass Business School in London. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the states of California and Florida, Chartered Accountant in Jamaica, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
