Adventist Risk Management, Inc. (ARM) we have young people at the forefront of our interest, and by fostering critical thinking, we hope to empower them to develop a mindset of risk management that will protect them as they grow into adulthood. This is why we have designed the Spy Danger Pathfinders honour!
This honour has already been approved by the General Conference and is a fun and interactive course that aims to promote tools to analyse and manage risk. It provides the opportunity to educate and equip Pathfinders aged 10 to 15 with the knowledge and skills they need to recognise and respond to various dangers wherever they are.The honour was inspired by a video game created by ARM in South America, featuring a detective as the main character. In the game, players focus on spotting dangers to avoid them. This concept led to the creation of the Spy Danger honour, with its badge depicting the Spy Danger detective.
The term “risk management” is explored at a fundamental level. By learning to identify and assess risks around them, Pathfinders can make informed choices to keep themselves and others safe, with the understanding that dangers exist in different aspects of life. Risk management is about thinking ahead, being responsible, and taking steps to prevent problems before they even happen.
We highlight that risk management is an ongoing process of learning and adapting. As our Pathfinders grow older, they will continue to develop these skills, enabling them to navigate life’s challenges more confidently.
What Does the Honour Cover?
The Spy Danger honour includes:- Recognising the principles of risk management in ancient times and how it evolved throughout the years to become the structured way of identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk as we know today, including how ARM was created.
- Identifying Bible stories that display risk management principles.
- Developing the ability to assess situations, weigh options, and make safe choices.
Why It Matters
ARM is dedicated to promoting safety and security within our Adventist community. By introducing the Spy Danger honour, we are taking a proactive step in safeguarding our youth. We believe that safety education should not just focus on the Pathfinders context but take a holistic approach for all areas of life. The Spy Danger honour was designed to address safety from multiple perspectives both personal and social, preparing Pathfinders to navigate today’s complex world with wisdom and caution.
By teaching Pathfinders how to be alert, aware, and assertive, the Spy Danger honour instills life skills that go beyond the Pathfinders program, helping young people grow into responsible and vigilant adults.
