Whether this is your first time conducting an emergency drill or your 31st time, ask yourself, what could be done better? How can you address this?
Evaluating Your Drill
Start by gathering your Crisis Response Team. Pull out the Safety Sabbath Drill Evaluation Form and discuss each question as a team:- Did your team respond appropriately to the situation? Did each team member follow through on the assigned roles? How can each area be improved?
- Did the congregation follow instructions? Did they respond appropriately during your chosen drill? Create a list of suggestions to share with the congregation that will enhance their response during the next drill.
- If the group was required to evacuate during your chosen drill, was the evacuation executed smoothly? How much time did it take for a full evacuation to occur? What are a few ways your team can accelerate the evacuation process?
Putting Suggestions Into Actions
Use the recommendations list to tackle the items one-by-one until every idea has been implemented. Make sure you use the help of your team to carry out each of these suggestions. If you try to do everything yourself, you can become overwhelmed. Distributing tasks among your Crisis Response Team members can also allow for each of the members to have a sound knowledge base on what has been taken care of and what still needs their attention.Enlist the help of congregation members, if necessary. Involve every member of your church in safety preparation. It’s an investment that they’ll want to see pay off! With more people involved, recommendations can be carried out quickly and efficiently.
Let’s Drill Again!
Once you’ve updated your drill plan to reflect the needed changes, it’s time to conduct your drill again! When the next drill is complete, repeat the evaluation and update your list of improvements.
