Protect and Prepare Your Church or School Building From Tornadoes
Here is a list of best practices from your account executives as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA):1
- Review your insurance coverage. Talk to your account executive about your coverage and make sure you are adequately insured. Underinsurance can significantly damage ministry funds in the event of a loss.
- Create an inventory. Create an inventory of all equipment and valuables in your facility. Document everything and keep it safe.
- Use storm shutters. Storm shutters protect your windows and glass from flying debris.
- Strengthen doors. Wind pressure is a significant threat to your facility. You can reinforce your doors with deadbolts and longer hinge attachments.
- Strengthen your roof. Re-adhere loose shingles and consider impact-resistant shingles and roof strappings.
- Trim or remove dead or damaged trees. Tornadoes can fell trees. Trimming or removing dead trees or damaged limbs can further protect your property from damage.
- Secure structures. Any outdoor structures, furniture, trash cans, or gutters can be damaged. Take necessary precautions to secure them.
